There is something genteel about the act of drinking tea the way that it is meant to, harks back to an older, more unhurried and civil way of life. Enjoying tea means enjoying social interaction. It means sitting down with family and friends to partake in the warmth of this soothing elixir.
Various ceremonies and rituals have grown around tea and the way it is drunk. Witness for instance the veritable institution that is the English Tea Party or High Tea as it is so quaintly known. Along with the inevitable cucumber sandwiches you would have biscuits, scones, crumpets, cakes, tarts and all manner of goodies for this elegant and supposedly ‘light’ meal that fits neatly into the empty spaces that form in the stomach after lunch and before supper. In short high tea hits the spot!
Socializing
Tea drinking has become an excuse for civilized social intercourse. You may not want to call a person over for a formal meal; but you could very easily call them over for an informal chat and tea session! It creates a non stressful, genial environment where you can break the ice; gently and without the demanding requirements of spending an entire evening with someone. Suppose you have a new neighbor and you don’t know whether you like them yet or not; calling them over for tea is a superb way to judge if they are your kind of person or not!
Tea can also be a wonderful way to take some time out of your busy day to relax. For this time do not let the world and its cares intrude upon you; this is the time for just the wonderful aromas, taste and sensations of a dear and cherished beverage to enjoy and just to BE!
