Oolong Tea

All tea comes from the same basic plant, the difference is in how it is processed that gives you the different  kinds of tea, such as black, white, green, CTC or longleaf and of course Oolong tea. Tea leaves are fermented longer than is the case with green tea, and less than is the case with black tea to get Oolong tea.

Now everyone says that Oolong tea helps you lose weight (some claim it can help you lose up to 2 lbs a week) and promotes good health; is this the truth? And if so how can tea help you lose weight?

Weight Loss

Studies conducted with all kinds of teas have shown that all tea can in fact aid weight loss and that oolong is the most effective in this respect.  What oolong has been shown to do is increase the metabolism and thereby burning fat thru the method or lypolysis and by blocking the absorption of dietary fats.

When and How it is Effective

In parts of Asia, oolong tea is often an accompaniment to greasy food, because it hinders the absorption of fats into the body and also doubles the excretion of fat from the body.  This is why it is advised that oolong tea be drunk about 15 minutes before the meal.

Rejuvenates Internal Organs

It is thought that because of the high polyphenol content of oolong tea, the internal organs of the body are rejuvenated. In a study involving men and women aged between 18 and 39 the participants were asked to drink a liter of oolong tea a day and no water. At the end of one month it was found that the internal organs of the participants were rejuvenated by an average of 1.9 years and a maximum of nine years.

Most of the participants, who were on a balanced diet experienced 2 centimeters reduction in their waist size and 8 experienced 2 centimeters reduction in their upper arms. The participants also recorded lower cholesterol levels.

A Word of Caution

Oolong does not however claim to be a magic elixir or a miracle weight loss drug. Oolong can aid weight loss when used in conjunction with a balanced diet and a healthy life style. If one imagines that one can live a sedentary life and indulge in unhealthy dietary habits, then oolong is bound to be ineffective as a weight loss aid. If however, healthy life style choices are made, then it has been found that oolong is extremely effective as a weight loss aid.
